Jeremy Prim

Jeremy Prim is a current fifth year Sociology doctoral candidate at the University of California, Davis. His current program of research focuses in the areas of race, inequality, policing, and school discipline. His dissertation research attempts to understand how mechanisms of the carceral state permeate schools and the relationship the carceral state has to educational outcomes. He intends to understand how the carceral state operates in educational spaces. In the current discussions that surround power and control in schools, his three-part dissertation examines the ways in which the carceral state works in educational spaces. Jeremy’s work explores the possibility that at the national level the carceral state exacerbates, at the state level mitigates, and at the local level combats the social reproduction of educational inequality and punishment disproportionality.
